Shop Health Insurance

There is a new way for Texans to shop for health insurance. aca

No one can be denied for pre-existing conditions, and many will be eligible for reduced costs based on their income and household size.

There are five levels of plans with differing premiums and deductibles:  bronze, silver, gold, platinum, and catastrophic.

All plans cover an essential list of health benefits:  ambulatory patient services; emergency services; hospitalization; maternity and newborn care; mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment; prescription drugs; rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices; laboratory services; preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management; and pediatric services, including oral and vision care.[1]

You can enroll today.  The enrollment period began on Oct. 1 and continues through March 31, 2014.  Health insurance enrollment completed by Dec. 15, 2013 will have an effective start date of Jan. 1, 2014.  Apply online at, or by phone at 1-800-318-2596, TTY: 1-855-889-4325.  Residents from 36 states, including Texas, are all using the same website to shop for insurance, which means that there are some delays in the process due to the large volume of traffic on the site.
