World Humanitarian Day falls on 19 August, the day in 2003 when 22 aid workers were killed in a bombing at the UN headquarters in Baghdad. In December 2008, the UN General Assembly decided to designate this day as World Humanitarian Day. It’s a day to commemorate all people who have lost their lives in humanitarian service and to celebrate the spirit of people helping people that motivates this work. Additionally, it’s a day to draw attention to humanitarian needs worldwide and the importance of international cooperation in meeting these needs.
This year, the theme is: The world needs more. . .
