Every year, libraries, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers & readers celebrate Banned Books Week to bring awareness to censorship, free speech, civil rights and the freedom to read. The VC/UHV Library is partnering with multiple organizations to bring you a variety of activities during Banned Books Week – September 30-October 6, 2012. All events are open to the public.
Monday, October 1
- 12:00 PM @ Victoria Public Library Bronte Room ―― Equilibrium movie screening. Raffle drawing to give away 5 copies of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer after the movie.
- 4:00 PM @ Victoria Public Library Bronte Room ―― Fahrenheit 451 movie screening. Raffle drawing to give away 5 copies of The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie after the movie.
Tuesday, October 2
- 3:00 PM @ Victoria Public Library Bronte Room ―― Storm Center movie screening. Raffle drawing to give away 5 copies of Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen following the movie.
- 5:30 PM @ VC/UHV Library ―― Diana Lopez will discuss her book Choke.
Wednesday, October 3
- 10:00 AM @ VC/UHV Library ―― Read-Out featuring author Rosemary Clement-Moore and VC and UHV students.
- 4:30 PM @ Victoria Public Library Bronte Room ―― Thomas Barker will discuss archery & The Hunger Games.
- 5:00 PM Victoria Public Library Bronte Room ―― The Hunger Games movie screening. Raffle drawing to give away 5 copies of The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky after the movie.
Thursday, October 4
- 12:00 PM @ VC/UHV Library ―― Dr. Jeffrey Sartain will present on censorship in contemporary literature.
- 1:00 PM @ Quad next to VC Academic Building ―― Atlatl throwing instruction.
- 3:30 PM @ Victoria Public Library Bronte Room ―― 1984 movie screening. Raffle drawing to give away 5 copies of The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier after the movie.
